The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument. The monument comprises the remains of a nearly square earthwork enclosure, consisting of a ditch between two banks enclosing an area 42m W - E and 39m N – S. It may have been a farmstead or stock enclosure and is probably prehistoric in date. It is situated on a SW facing slope. The N, S and W sides are nearly ploughed-out but the E side remains as a ditch 2m deep, an inner bank nearly 1m high and an outer bank 0.3m high. The ditch is about 4m wide, as are the inner and outer banks. The entrance was on the W side. An earthen round barrow (AN110) is situated on the hilltop 160m N of the earthwork, the two sites are inter-visible. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric agricultural and domestic practices. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits. The structure itself may be expected to contain archaeological information concerning chronology and building techniques. The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
