The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument. A large, well-preserved hut circle of the Iron Age or Romano-British period (c. 800 BC - AD 400), measuring about 11m in internal diameter, on an E-facing slope. It has been scarped into the hillside (the uphill side has been dug into the slope and the downhill side built up), and has an entrance facing towards the SE. It is fairly well preserved, although there is little standing masonry. The line of the wall is marked by large stones, presumably facing stones, except on the S, where more remains, including some core material. Some internal facing is visible but more is probably protected by fallen stone (possibly external facing too). It is significant that this is the side furthest from the nearby modern field wall. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric settlement. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits. The structures themselves may be expected to contain archaeological information concerning chronology and building techniques. The scheduled area forms a rectangle measuring 30m x 50m in order to protect an area which includes traces of early field boundaries.
