The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument. The monument comprises the remains of a group of five stone built cairns situated along a ridge, which probably date to the Bronze Age (c. 2300 - 800 BC). The easternmost cairn measures 15m in diameter and is 1m high. The second in the group lies 400m to the north west and measures 15m in diameter and is 1m high; it has a central depression with walled sides. An Ordnance Survey triangulation point is located on top. The third cairn lies 270m to the west of this, it measures 15m in diameter and is 1.3m high; a trench cut into the north side is likely to be the result of Antiquarian disturbance. The fourth cairn, another 420m west north west, measures 20m in diameter and is 0.9m high. The westernmost cairn a further 150m south east measures 15m in diameter and is 1.3m high. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric burial and ritual practices. The features are an important relic of a prehistoric funerary and ritual landscape and retain significant archaeological potential. There is a strong probability of the presence of both intact ritual and burial deposits, together with environmental and structural evidence. The cairns importance is further enhanced by their group value. The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
