The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument. The monument consists of an earthwork of unknown date. It is an incomplete univallate enclosure, elongated in shape and measuring c.185m north-east to south west by a maximum of c.80m, which utilises the steep natural scarp of Carregwiber for defence on its south and south-east sides. The defences on the north and west consist of a single bank, standing up to c.0.4m high above the interior, and c.2.0m above an external ditch, beyond which, along much of the central portion, is a further slight counterscarp bank. At the north-east end, an entrance is marked by a pronounced embanked hollow extending inwards for c.20m parallel with the scarp face. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of defensive, agricultural or settlement organisation. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits. The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
