The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument. The monument comprises the remains of a small medieval chapel. The chapel stands on level ground near the cliff top. It consists of low stone walls of two rectangular buildings, side by side - the chapel, which was a simple rectangular building with nave and smaller chancel, and a small building on its north side. The north wall of the chapel is the most upstanding, being c. 0.5m wide and 1-1.5m high, with fallen stone inside it. At the east end the east wall is missing and there is a lot of fallen stone inside. The south wall is incomplete and stands to c. 0.5m high. To the south of it is a horizontal stone slab. The smaller building to the north has low walls measuring c. 0.3-0.5m high and 0.5m wide. There are two internal projections on the south wall and an entrance on the south side of the west wall. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of the organisation and practice of medieval Christianity. The site forms an important element within the wider medieval landscape. The site is well preserved and retains considerable archaeological potential. There is a strong probability of the presence of evidence relating to chronology, layout, building techniques and functional detail. The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
