Description

Summary Description and Reason for Designation
The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument. The cairn is built out of the surrounding scree and measures about 1m high on the up slope side to the north east and 1.5m high from down slope to the south west. It is at least 10m in diameter with a very slight hollow in the top, otherwise appearing largely undisturbed The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of Prehistoric ritual and funerary rites. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits. The structures themselves may be expected to contain archaeological information concerning chronology and building techniques. The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
