Description

Summary Description and Reason for Designation
The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument. The monument consists of a stone with a cross carved into the surface, probably dating to the medieval period. The stone which is of a coarse conglomerate measures c.0.9m long and 0.4m wide with the cross clearly visible. The cross itself is a simple incised design with arms of approximately the same size. The cross is enclosed by a slightly oval incised ring measuring 0.23m along the shaft and 0.20m along the arms. The stone is set in a low roadside boundary wall. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of the organisation and practice of medieval Christianity. The scheduled area comprises the remains described.
