Summary Description and Reason for Designation
The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument.
The monument comprises a pair of black-painted, ornamental wrought iron gates, hung upon a wrought iron arched framework. The central motif of the arch is a sun, with a shield surmounted by a gilded rampant lion. The gates hang between square-section stone piers and low quadrant walls topped by screen railings. The gates date to the early 18th century, and were made by Robert Davies of Croes Foel.
The monument is of national importance as a fine example of 18th century wrought iron work, forming part of an important designed landscape.
The scheduled area comprises the remains described and an area around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
