Summary Description and Reason for Designation
The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument.
The monument comprises several hut circles, the foundations of round houses, probably dating to the Bronze Age or Iron Age (c.2300 BC - AD 74) or to the Roman period (1st to 5th century AD).
A small group of hut circles on a low, sandy peninsular projecting from the eastern bank of the strait between Holyhead and Anglesey. The best preserved on the north side of the group is c.9m in diameter, that in the centre c.6m diameter. At the south end is a large ruined hut with a small rectangular 'workshop' to the east. Traces of enclosures can also be seen but they are not certainly contemporary. The general appearance and the dry masonry are similar to those of the huts on Ty Mawr, and suggest a Romano-British date.
The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric settlement. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits. The structures themselves may be expected to contain archaeological information concerning chronology and building techniques.
The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
