The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument. The monument comprises the remains of a well-preserved medieval moated homestead. The moat is D-shaped and about 30m wide and 50m long. The lower south-east side of the moat is straight pond like feature fed by a stream. It is 60m in length and up to 8m wide. From this, two shallow broad ditches with external banks curve round to define a semi-circular enclosure. The banks are between 8m and 10m wide. An entrance gap is said to exist in the centre of this arc. The monument is located in dense woodland and scrub, at the foot of a scarp. Botanical evidence suggests that this represents ancient woodland. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of medieval settlement. The monument is well preserved and is an important relic of the medieval landscape. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of intact archaeological deposits and structural evidence. The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
