The monument comprises the remains of early huts and enclosures which are part of a larger system of enclosures and huts. The scheduled area contains: (1) a round hut c. 8 m in diameter (internal) with walls 2 m thick. From the inside the walls stand over 1 m high on the S side, where an earlier lynchet passes through. There are two door jambs remaining on the outer face. This hut is surrounded by, and linked with, a rectangular enclosure. The enclosing wall is constructed of large facing stones and a rubble infill. The walls stand just over 0.5 m high. The enclosure measures 35 m NW - SE and 38 m SW - NE. The entrance is in the NE wall and is 2.5 m wide. Only one orthostatic jamb remains. The site is underlain by two earlier lynchets. (2) To the N of (1) is a rectangular hut adjoining an irregular enclosure. Both may be preceded by an earlier round hut. The rectangular hut measures 14 m x 9 m with an entrance in the E wall. The S wall of the hut continues E for some 30 m, where it meets another wall running N. The adjoining enclosure (19 m x 12.5 m) has an entrance in the SE corner. The N wall of this enclosure continues SW and may even have enclosed the circular hut (3). A semi-circular stone and earth bank adjoining the N side of (2) may represent an earlier hut circle. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of settlement practices. It is an important relic of the historical landscape and retains significant archaeological potential The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
