Summary Description and Reason for Designation
The following provides a general description of the scheduled monument.
The monument consists of an earthwork probably related to the Roman fort at Caersws. It appears to comprise two camps, on the northern bank of the River Severn, partly destroyed by the sewage works, and not visible on the ground. Three parallel lines of defence (ditches) have been identified, with an entrance gap in the centre and outwork beyond.
The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of defensive, agricultural or settlement organisation. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits.
The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
