The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument. The monument comprises the remains of a very large earth-built round barrow, a burial mound which probably dates to the Bronze Age (c.2300 - 800 BC). The barrow is circular in shape on plan, with a diameter of some 34m and has a rounded profile up to 4.5m high. The barrow is located on the northern scarp of Mynydd Hiraethog (Denbigh Moors) with higher ground to the southwest. Significant views are therefore north-east along the valley of the Afon Hyrdd in an arc from south-east to north-west. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric burial and ritual practices. It is an important relic of a prehistoric funerary and ritual landscape and retains significant archaeological potential. There is a strong probability of the presence of both intact ritual and burial deposits, together with environmental and structural evidence. The importance of this barrow is further enhanced by its proximity to and group value with the Rhiwiau round barrow cemetery (DE100). The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
