Summary Description and Reason for Designation
The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument.
The monument consists of the remains of a settlement. Probably dating to the medieval period, the site contains house platforms, circular stone structure, earthworks and a hollow way. At the higher end of the field is a roughly levelled area running east-west across the field. Below this are several roughly rectangular house platforms, the easternmost one having a low bank, c. 1.5m high on its lower side. At the lower end of the field, in the middle, is a low circular stone structure, c. 0.8m high and 6m in diameter. On its south-east side is a small notch, and on its south-west side half way up the side is a hole and a spout.
The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of settlement organisation. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits.
The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
