The monument comprises the remains of a probable round barrow or burial cairn, probably dating to the Bronze Age (c.2300 BC - 800 BC), with, in addition, possible early Medieval associations. The monument occupies a hilltop position with wide views to the northeast. The barrow is a 0.5m high, oval mound measuring c.30m (NE-SW) x 20m. There is a depression in the centre c.6m x 2m which probably relates to nineteenth century investigation. The monument is sited in a commanding position with wide views to the north-east in particular. Association with a 5th – 6th century AD inscribed stone implies that the mound may also be the site of early Medieval activity. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric burial and ritual. The monument is an important relic of a prehistoric funerary and ritual landscape and retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability the presence of both intact burial or ritual deposits and environmental and structural evidence, including a buried prehistoric land surface. In addition the monument has early Medieval associations. The scheduled area comprises the remains described and an area around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive. It is circular and measures 30m in diameter.
