The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument. The monument consists of the remains of a deserted rural settlement, comprising three closely associated buildings with attached agricultural enclosures. It represents a small but apparently long lived upland farmstead which could have seen its origins in the medieval period. The remains of the three buildings vary in size, appearance and method of construction. The manner in which they have been organised, combined with the presence of blocked doorways and other structural alterations, suggest that they span several phases of occupation and have seen varied use, including domestic occupation. The site is of substantial construction, well preserved and demonstrating evidence for multiple phases of use and change. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of medieval or post-medieval settlement organisation. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits. A deserted rural settlement may be part of a larger cluster of monuments and their importance can further enhanced by their group value. The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
