The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument. The monument consists of the remains of a deserted rural settlement, probably dating to the medieval or post-medieval period, which lies in an area of improved pasture on ground gently sloping to the north-west. It comprises two main enclosures and probably three house platforms terraced into the slope. The platforms are rectangular, c.8m by 5m. The two enclosures are contiguous, rectilinear but with rounded corners, with a defensive bank and internal quarry ditch. That on the east is the larger of the two, measuring c.51m north-west to south-east by c.41m; the western enclosure appears to have been constructed against it and measures c.36m north-south by c.24m. The western enclosure is crossed by a fence line. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of medieval or post-medieval settlement organisation. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits. A deserted rural settlement may be part of a larger cluster of monuments and their importance can further enhanced by their group value. The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
