The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument. The monument consists of a well-preserved example of a large, complex and possibly multi-phase upland rural settlement located in Cwm Brwynog. It is situated roughly halfway between Llanberis and the summit of Yr Wyddfa/Snowdon as the crow flies. The site comprises the stone foundations of nine rectangular long huts, a rectangular house platform and a square shelter or pen. These are probably the surviving remains of the hafotai collectively recorded as 'Combroinok' in the 1352 Record of Caernarfon. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of medieval settlement organisation. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits. Added interest is given by the survival of documentary information and the possibility that the settlement has developed through several phases of occupation and use. Large medieval settlements are rare and important survivals. The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
