The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument. The monument comprises the remains of two round barrows, burial mounds probably dating to the Bronze Age (c. 2300 BC - 800 BC) and situated in open heathland on the summit of Mynydd Castlebythe. The easternmost barrow (Item A: SN 02872 29647) measures c. 25m in diameter and c. 2.4m in height. The westernmost barrow (Item B: SN 02816 29638) measures c. 25m in diameter and c. 1.3m in height. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric burial and ritual. It is an important relic of a prehistoric funerary and ritual landscape and retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of both intact burial or ritual deposits and environmental and structural evidence, including buried prehistoric land surfaces. Their importance is further enhanced by the group value formed by its spatial association with a Bronze Age ring barrow located c. 50m to the W of Item B. The area to be scheduled comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive. Area A, centred on Item A, is circular and measures 35m in diameter. Area B, centred on Item B, is circular and measures 35m in diameter.
