The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument. The monument probably dates to the Iron Age or Romano-British period (c.800BC - AD400) and comprises the remains of a rectangular enclosure with traces of at least one round hut and several oblong buildings within, there may also be traces of activity beyond the enclosure wall. The enclosure probably measured c.56m in length by 36m in width originally, bounded by a stone wall which survives to a height of 0.5m. It is orientated NNE-SSW. The fragmentary remains of the S wall are no longer attached to the rest of the enclosure, as there are gaps between them and the W and E walls. There is one round hut towards the SW corner c.4.5m in internal diameter, with walls 0.3m high. The remains of two rectangular buildings are visible, one attached to the W side of the enclosure, towards the NW corner, and the other, of which only the SW and NW sides can be clearly seen, lying towards the NE corner. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric settlement. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits. The structures themselves may be expected to contain archaeological information concerning chronology and building techniques. The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
