Summary Description and Reason for Designation
The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument.
The monument comprises a circular dry stone bank 8m in diameter and standing up to 1m high, which may be either the remains of a ring cairn probably dating to the Bronze Age (c. 2300 - 800 BC), or of a hut circle, the foundation of a round house probably dating to the Bronze Age or Iron Age (c.2300 BC - AD 74). To its west lie at least two stone cairns, which may represent clearance from the surrounding fields.
The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of the prehistoric use of this area. The site is an important relic of a prehistoric landscape and retains significant archaeological potential. There is a strong probability of the presence of intact archaeological deposits, together with environmental and structural evidence. This site is only part of a complex of prehistoric remains stretching along a substantial length of the shelf between the Cadair Idris massif and the coast, which means that it also has group value.
The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
