The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument. The monument comprises the remains of a medieval chapel, which lies in a small field known as Bryn Capel at the foot of Mynydd Anelog. The robbed-out foundations of a small rectangular structure some 6m square can be identified on a level terrace immediately to the NW of the house named Gors. The ground falls away to the NE in two marked steps and perhaps for this reason, the field does not appear to have been cultivated. This modest site assumes a greater importance in view of the discovery nearby of two 5th-6th century inscribed gravestones naming Senacus (CN089) and Veracius (CN090) which refer to 'PRSB' (presbyter/priest). The 'Senacus stone' indicates a graveyard 'cum multitudinum fratrum' (with multitudes of brethren) and there is therefore a strong possibility that an early graveyard and other features of an early ecclesiastical establishment survive in the area. The stones were moved to Cefnamwlch near Tudweiliog some time before 1859 and have since been secured in Aberdaron Church. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of the organisation and practice of medieval Christianity. Such settlements are scarce and the possible association with the important early ecclesiastical foundation on Bardsey enhances the group value. The site forms an important element within the wider medieval landscape. The site is well preserved and retains considerable archaeological potential. There is a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits. The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
