The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument. The monument consists of a stone with a cross carved into the surface, probably dating to the early medieval period. The upright stone is 1.2m high and stands in the churchyard, against the north wall of the lych gate. It bears an incised linear Latin cross with the ends of the cross piece clubbed and the upper and lower ends slightly clubbed. It may date from the 7th to the 9th centuries. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of the organisation and practice of medieval Christianity. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits. A cross marked stone may be part of a larger cluster of monuments and their importance can further enhanced by their group value. The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
