Summary Description and Reason for Designation
The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument.
The monument comprises a house platform, constructed on the south facing slope overlooking the Doethir Fawr river. It takes the form of a simple earth platform 11m long and 8m wide upon which slight building foundation walls can be discerned. The platform was probably constructed during the medieval period in order to support a dwelling house, which would have been built from perishable materials such as timber and earth.
The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of medieval settlement. The monument forms an important element within the wider medieval context. The scheduled area may be expected to contain a wide range of archaeological information, including evidence for the dwelling house and intact internal house floors, as well as evidence in regard to chronological detail, construction techniques and agricultural methods. House platforms may be part of a larger cluster of settlements and their importance can be further enhanced by their group value.
The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
