The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument. The monument comprises the remains of a well-preserved hut circle and attached enclosure that probably date to the Iron Age or Romano-British period (c. 800 BC - AD 400). They are likely to be all that survives of a once larger settlement. The hut circle is 7.9m in diameter and is defined by stone-faced walls 0.8m thick and 0.6m high in places. The entrance on the E has one stone door jamb standing 0.75m high and opens into a stone-walled enclosure to the NE, which measures roughly 6m square. The site has particular archaeological importance because it is a fortunate survival in an area which has been subject to extensive agricultural improvements in the past, resulting in the destruction of other similar huts. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of later prehistoric domestic construction practices. The monument retains significant archaeological potential and there is a strong probability that structural evidence has survived, together with internal and external floor surfaces from both the hut and the associated enclosure. The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
