Summary Description and Reason for Designation
The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument.
The monument comprises the remains of a small, well-preserved settlement consisting of two associated circular huts of the later prehistoric or Romano-British period and a single, contemporary enclosure or courtyard to which both huts had access. It is located on a slight natural terrace at the fork of two streams, on the lower east-facing slopes of the Moelwyn range above Tanygrisiau Reservoir.
The site is of particular interest because of its unusual layout and the range of structural features which remain. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric settlement practices. It is an important relic of the prehistoric landscape and retains significant archaeological potential. There is a strong probability of the presence of environmental and structural evidence, including preserved internal and external floor levels.
The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
