The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument. The monument consists of the well-preserved remains of a deserted rural settlement, probably dating to the medieval period. The settlement comprises three rectangular platforms cut into the hill slope to provide a level foundation for rectangular buildings such as long-houses, barns and byres. Platform I measures 12m by 8m, platform II 11m by 3.5m and platform III 14m by 6m. The settlement occupies a sheltered, north-east facing shelf above the Afon Ddu valley with spectacular views across Dyffryn Conwy and forms an important element in a wider medieval and post-medieval upland landscape. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of medieval settlement organisation. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits, including preserved medieval ground surfaces below the monuments and intact environmental remains. A deserted rural settlement may be part of a larger cluster of monuments and their importance can further enhanced by their group value. The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
