Summary Description and Reason for Designation
This 19th century merchant vessel is another casualty of the Sarn Padrig reef. Originally considered to be the Diamond, a three-masted square rigger built in New York in 1823, which sunk in 1825, excavation suggests that this theory may be incorrect as sampling of wood from the vessel suggests that it was constructed in North America somewhat after 1828. It presumably served as a trans-Atlantic cargo vessel and its two water tanks and the iron components of the vessel are prominent features on the sea bed.
